Modern Organic Mood Board

Hey guys! I've been a bad blogger...I promised you a mood board last week and never delivered. I swear I don't know where my time goes these days!

Well, here it is: my interpretation of the style I like to call Modern Organic. In this style, I envision mostly clean, modern lines mixed in with lots of natural materials and textures. The overall vibe is carefree and airy, yet stylish.

The colors of my board were inspired by this fun artwork by Lizzy Janssen. I've had it in my inspiration folder for ages, and thought it was the perfect time to use it. From there, I brought in lots of textures and bright accents that complement the art, all in a foundation of modern pieces.

I enjoyed creating this board, as it's been far too long since I've done one! I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Evolution of a Home ~ Jenna Lyons

Hello! I'm sorry about my unplanned extended absense from the blog. I feel like I've been playing catch-up with a lot that's been going on over the past week, and never had a moment to focus on the blog. Hopefully this week will be better!

Anyway, I was recently flipping through a book a friend recently gave me, called Living Together: How Couples Create Design Harmony at Home, and was surprised to see JCrew's Jenna Lyons and her husband on there! The book featured their first home together, circa 2002. It was so interesting to see how different their first home was from their famous current brownstone! Take a look:

They have definitely gone from a much more casual, rustic vibe and upped the glam factor. Same could be said for their dining room (notice they kept the paiting from the original living room):

And finally her closet, which went from having an industrial/loft feel to a dream dressing room!

I think it's great to see how people's styles evolve. I notice my own taste has changed so much in the past few years, so it's nice to see someone with such great style such as Jenna also goes through this evolution!

Color Series ~ Charcoal & Yellow

So far, I have shown you a few color schemes using the classic navy. Now I am moving on to another ultra-versatile color, charcoal gray. There are endless color combinations that will look good with this neutral, but I am starting with sunny yellow!

You may remember this image from domino, which featured this cheerful color scheme. The choice in tailored furnishings and a mustard-y yellow kept the room looking crisp and elegant:

This scheme could work well for many rooms, but I particularly love this color scheme for kitchens! For me, a kitchen should be a bright, happy space, the heart of one's home. I once lived in an apartment with a kitchen that had white cabinets, gray countertops and one accent wall painted the perfect shade of yellow, and it was my all-time favorite kitchen (even though it was pretty small.)

With that in mind, I thought I would re-create a sunny kitchen for this week's mood board:

Lucky Mag Interiors - Happy Yellow Kitchen

Good morning! I hope you had a good weekend, as I did. The weather couldn't have been more perfect, and I also had lots of free time to finally work on my cabinet. I hope to have the finished product for you later this week. It is actually completed, except with all the layers of paint the shelves no longer fit! I am hoping my hubby can help me sand off some of the sides. This project has honestly been more work than it's worth, but overall I am happy with the newly white cabinet. It blends into the room a lot more. I can't wait to show you!

I love the open shelving! It is so well-styled. Yellow is my favorite accent color for the kitchen. Imagine making your morning coffee here - you'd barely need the caffeine!
