New Chairs Have Arrived

After months of searching, I finally ordered my dining room chairs, and they just arrived. Sadly, after all of this research, the ones I finally picked out are still not perfect. I love the way they look, and I think they coordinate very well with my china cabinet and the rest of the existing furniture - but they are huge! I had looked at them before and knew they were a bit bigger than others, but it didn't seem so bad. My table is so small though (only 41" round) and has a pretty big base, so I can't pull the chairs in all the way...

chairs tucked in to the max (btw, my carpet is not as ugly as it looks here!)

The other issue is that it will be tough to reupholster them. I was hoping to get a fun graphic print for the seats, but these are upholstered so nicely and have piping around it. I think I'd have to leave the job to a professional, which doesn't make sense right now. At least the existing color is nice and matches the couch.

Everyone is still suggesting I keep them though. My plan was to get nice chairs now that will go well with a bigger table later (and just get two more armchairs), and this fits the bill for that nicely. Plus I do like how they look a lot, and I don't have a back-up plan, so I think these are staying. At least now I can finally start having people over for dinner!

The dining room is finallly coming together and I hope to have final pictures of it soon!

What a bummer! I do love those chairs though... hopefully, you can work them in. I can't wait to see the result :).

Could I make a couple of suggestions? Have you considered getting a glass top to place on top of your current table so that the chairs would be a better scale to the table?

Also, don't let the cording deter you from recovering the chairs. I just did my chairs and removed the cord first with a pair of pliers. I would be more than happy to walk you through it. You can find my e-mail address on my blog if you'd like to get in touch.

BTW, I love the chairs!

Karen, thanks for the suggestions! I actually was thinking about getting something on top, but the only thing I thought of was a marble top to make it look like the real Saarinen...but definitely out of reach for me! The glass is a great idea. Also, I appreciate your advice on the reuphostering.
