Cozy Interiors

Fall is here! While I am a warm weather girl all the way, there is something about the feeling of Fall that I just love. After a busy summer, it's so nice to have those cool days where you feel like you want nothing more than to curl up under blankets and read a good book...or stay home and cook a wonderful meal...or put on your boots and cozy sweater to go for a walk...

Now is the time to cozy up your home with lots of candles, blankets and soft materials. Here is some inspiration for you:

What do you most look forward to this season?

I just came across this image from the DC edition of Apartment Therapy, and fell in love. The color scheme manages to be so cheery and soothing at the same time.

One of my favorite features is the wallpaper covering the doors on either side of the fireplace. Isn't it such a nice touch?

Have a great week!

Dark, Moody Bedrooms

Last week I was talking to a co-worker about paint colors. She happens to have a north-facing bedroom, just like I do. Despite having done some decorating odds and ends to my bedroom, I find it keeps falling completely flat. That's exactly what she said to her once all-white room. In a room with little sunlight it just doesn't work - it ends up looking dingy no matter what you do.

Hers is now painted a beautiful deep taupe, and she is completely in love with her room. She says it's so warm and cozy, so conducive to sleep. It got me thinking of painting my room a nice chocolate brown. Only thing is I am a bit afraid of dark paint colors! To help convince myself, I've been searching for images of dark, beautiful bedrooms.

I may go a little lighter like the last photo (above) but either way I think it will warm up the room and provide some much-needed contrast. I still have a huge to-do list for my home though, so it will be some time before I see what this room will become...or if I can actually go through with it!

Do you have a dark room in your home? How do you feel in it?

This office comes from a blogger who has modern organic style down to a science. I am referring to Emma at The Marion House Book. Her style is amazing!

While I love her entire home (see a recent tour here), I keep going back to see this picture of her office space. I just love the wallpapered wall, the mix of modern pieces with organic materials, and that fuzzy throw :)

I've had offices on the brain as I'm thinking about revamping my own...I will definitely keep this image in mind as I move forward!

Modern Organic Interiors

It never fails: every year as the weather gets warmer, I become more and more drawn to spaces that have an organic, rustic feel, with something in the space that brings the outdoors in. The style I am drawn to I like to call "modern organic," as I love to mix clean lines with natural elements, like raw woods, seagrass rugs, and wicker. Think of a farmhouse table with some white panton chairs paired with it.

Here are some images I have been inspired by lately:

Next week I'll create a moodboard to show you how I'd design a modern organic room. What do you think of this style?

Have a great holiday weekend everyone!!

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a good Easter (those who celebrate!) Mine was great. It is always nice to have some time with family - there is nothing like it.

During my days off, I also tried to make progress on my little hallway makeover. I thought this would be a quick and easy project, but once I started to paint out all the trim, it became a much bigger task (our condo came with the trim painted in a bad off-white, and I've been slowly painting over with a brighter white.) The hallway has four doors, and once you paint one side of it, you have another, which leads into painting another room! I ended up running out of paint and oddly enough so did my local Lowes, so I have to wait another week before they restock semi-gloss paint! Hopefully I will be able to share with you all soon though - I really like how it is turning out.

Anyway, I wanted to start the week sharing a very inspirational space I just came across. it is the dining room of Erika Brechtel of Small Shop. When I came across her blog, I became an instant follower. This room is one reason why:

Her dining room is so glam! I love the wall color, all of the gold accents, and the La Fiorentina pillows! Erika did such a great job styling it. You can see more of her home on her blog, here.

Have a great week!

So Spring has finally made its way to DC, and I couldn't be happier! We had a gorgeous day today, and even though the rest of the week won't be as nice, it still has me dreaming of all the fun the warm weather brings.

I went out to our balcony after work to clean out all the fallen leaves and, um, cobwebs, and now it is all ready for some lounging with a yummy drink and a pile of magazines. This beautiful photo below, though, reminds me that I still need to decorate it. Yes, the space is functional, but why not make it beautiful, too?

Do you have an outdoor space that needs decorating? How is the weather in your corner of the world?

And we're off to another week! While it was tough to lose an hour on Sunday, I am so happy to have longer doses of sunlight for the next few months. Spring really is around the corner :)

I was just flipping through my beloved collection of domino magazines (to gather inspiration for a new client at work) and I came across a room that reflects the bright, happy vibe I am feeling for this upcoming season:

Orange is not typically one of my favorite colors, but I am really loving this room. Especially those curtains! I could definitely spend a sunny afternoon here with a refreshing drink and a stack of magazines...

This reminds me I am way overdue for another Path to Design post. I am really enjoying my new design job so far, and I want to share some of what I am learning so far. Stay tuned!

Have a great week!

Inspired by Armonia Decors

Hello! I'm sorry for my unexpected absence over the last week, but I'm back to share some inspiration with you all. Recently I came across a stunning office designed by Armonia Decors, and just had to learn more about this designer!

Isn't this blue beautiful? What I love is the designer's great eye for color. Her rooms are so bold and happy!

I also like to see that the designer, Emily Ruddo, didn't go the standard route into design, having started her career doing technology sales and marketing. When friends began asking for help designing their homes, a passion for interior design - and a new business - was born. I'm sure a lot of us are really inspired by stories like hers!

She also does a nice job styling her spaces.

What do you think of her work?

Happy Friday! I hope you all have something fun planned ahead. I will be having a quiet one, now that I am working weekends. I'm off today, and might have to take advantage of a little free time to take a little nap in this cold day. If only I were laying on this bed, in this beautiful room:

I'm in love with the color scheme! The bright pink throw and that blue lamp add such an unexpected touch to the soft lavender predominantly in the room. That Louis chair is so cute, too.

Have a great one!

Happy Friday!

The weekend is finally here! We got our first snow yesterday, and are supposed to get some more on Sunday. I'm hoping this weekend will be full of lounging around and staying warm!

I absolutely love this living space from Adore Home Magazine. The soft colors, the beautiful chandelier, those fuzzy poufs...all so gorgeous!

Have a great one! Meet you back here next week.

Good morning everyone! I'm having another slow start to a busy week, but knowing that the holidays are right around the corner makes everything ok!

With projects around my home still incomplete, I am hoping that looking at some pretty interiors will inspire me to get it all done. This room for example, includes so many elements I am planning to add to my living room, such as a gallery wall and a gorgeous tiled fireplace (that beautiful chandelier wouldn't hurt either!)

I will be heading out of town next week for Thanksgiving, so it will be a few more weeks before I can finally relax in my home. I can't wait...

Please tell me I am not the only one with a never-ending to-do list!

A Touch of Lavender

Hello! Things have been a little quiet around here this week, I know. Just a lot going on in different aspects of my life (nothing major, just busy!) I am going to take the rest of the week to get caught up with everything, but wanted to at least stop by to leave you with some inspiration.

I mentioned this before, but my favorite color is purple. Not just any shade of purple, though. My absolute favorite is a soft lavender, especially when used sparingly as seen in these beautiful images below:

What do you think? Would you use this color in your home? I think my whole house would be decorated in this color if I lived on my own!

Cozy Neutral Schemes

Today the weather in DC is starting to feel like winter. This time of year always makes me crave a cocoon-like home to resort to after a long day. Neutral schemes to me equal cozy, warm and inviting, would you agree? This is in part due to all of the textures that make a neutral scheme come to life.

via Apartment Therapy
So soothing! Add a soft throw, some candles, a little red wine and you are all set for a relaxing evening!

I am seriously considering ditching the blue scheme I had planned for my living room and living with neutrals instead - at least for the winter. Could you live in an all-neutral room?
